Seattle - October 2011

Here's the first batch of photos from my recent vacation in Vancouver. Only they are from our day trip to Seattle!

Marco and I went up the Space Needle, had lunch at Pike Place Market, and went to see the first ever branch of Starbucks. I hope you enjoy reliving the day with me:

After we had had our share of sightseeing, we met up with Marco's old high school friend Martin and his family.

And as a true Big Bang Theory fan, I just had to make Marco stop at The Cheesecake Factory on the way home. Disappointingly, it looked nothing like on the show inside. More like a bar and nightclub. But the cheesecake was GOOD. We ordered one piece of Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cheesecake and one of White Chocolate Raspberry Truffle Cheesecake for on the road. The pieces were so big that I could not finish mine, so the only thing we declared at the US-Canadian border on the way back home was "a half-eaten piece of cheesecake".

What My Mother Did

My Mama sent me these photos last week. Apparently my parents have a glut of pears from their little tree in the front yard (I know that tree. It's small, but has been prolifically producing fruit every year.) And the pumpkins are from a farm that my Opa used to work at as a young man.

So apparently, my parents have been eating pears for months and my Mama has frozen a lot of fruit already and been making pumpkin bread, pear & mango jam, pear & pumpkin jam, pumpkin soup with rice and pear compote. Now she has run out of jars.

Right this moment, I wish I lived closer to home. I have tons of empty jam and conserve jars that I would happily trade for some pears and pumpkins. Or a harvest lunch.
