Road Trip - Margate, Broadstairs & Ramsgate

Here are some photos from a day trip to Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate that we took in August. These places are all coastal towns in the South East of England, about 2 hours away from London. They all are situated only a few kilometres apart.

Margate is the slightly tatty party town, Broadstairs the posher tourist destination and Ramsgate the sleepy, untouched port. They all have their individual charms, lovely sandy beaches and plenty of fresh air and sea views.

I somehow managed to either over- or underexpose every single shot I took during this outing, I hope you still enjoy my pictures!

I Am Guest Posting At "The Corner Of The Internet I Call Home" Today

The Corner Of The Internet I Call Home belongs to Fiona, who's a fellow Londoner. I have been reading Fiona’s blog for a little while now and love her enthusiasm, her candour and her penchant for whimsy.

Fiona's been busy getting married  lately (woot, woot!), so has asked a few people to fill in for her while she is off celebrating. One of those people was me!

If you like, pay Fiona a visit to check out what I wrote about the morning of my own wedding and to leave the newly-weds some congratulations!

30 Days Of Lists - Week 1

As I had mentioned before, I am taking part in 30 Days Of Lists this September. And I thought I would share my lists from each week passed with you on a Monday.

I love lists! Mostly I only write fairly boring ones for shopping, to-dos and packing my bag when going on holidays. So this month of list inspiration is a fun and insightful way of thinking about slightly more exciting topics. I really enjoyed the first few prompts.

Fine Tuning: Gold Panda - Marriage

Gosh, it's September! That means it is really fall now, isn't it? And that summer is over? Nevermind! Because fall is this somebody's favourite season!!!

In Germany, when the days get shorter and the evenings are dark and cool again, children in schools and nurseries will soon start crafting lanterns. Some time in October or November, there will then be a big procession through the local streets in which everybody carries their lantern on a long stick. There will be a marching band and special lantern songs, and most definitely bratwurst or pea soup after the walk is over.

This video reminds me of that special time:

Hope you have a great first autumnal weekend!

The Great Big Stitched Postcard Swap - It's A Wrap!

I mentioned a while ago that I was taking part in Beth's Great Big Stitched Postcard Swap. The motto for the postcards was 'BLOOM'.

This is what I sent off to my swap buddy Colleen in New Hampshire, USA:

I took an actual vintage postcard and cross stitched over the black & white rose motif.

For this I made a copy of a chart I had for a rose that was the right size to cover the photo. I then cut it close to the outer border, laid the chart over the postcard and punched needle holes with a push pin.

I took another postcard of the same size and embroidered my partner's name and a few blooming synonyms. I just wrote out all the words in pencil and used the push pin again to make holes. I then erased the pencil and used black thread to simulate handwriting. I think I require some more practice for this kind of stitching, but I think you can make out the words, no? I stitched the two postcards together with simple running stitch.

I must say that I really am starting to like embroidering on paper, it makes everything look quite edgy and artsy!

Check out the swap group on Flickr for more postcards!
